New Year's Resolutions ~ Plan for Success

Happy New Year! The time is fast approaching for the ancient tradition of planning your New Year's Resolutions. Did you know this tradition dates back to 153 B.C.? Now that is a lot of resolutions! Maybe there is really something to this!

New Year's is always a time for celebration and for customs to ensure good luck in the coming year. The entire point, simply put, is to make this coming year better than the last.

Personally, I am a huge believer in New Year's resolutions. We have all learned about goal setting and planning for success. Why not take that same approach to our personal lives that we do in school or the workplace? Couple that with the fact that without careful planning and organizing of your annual self-improvement of some kind, most New Year's Resolutions fail.

I have found that I need to take time away, without interruptions, to clear my mind, reflect on the past year, and look to the future! I then use the time to put some specific and measurable goals in place and action steps to accomplish them. As they say, "don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do"!

Some expert advice I uncovered suggests a New Year's Resolution:

1) Must be achievable by 11:59pm on December 31 of that calendar year.
2) It must be measurable AND specific.
3) It should positively impact your life, if only indirectly.
4) A process of events should be required in order to achieve it.

Sometime in the month of January, I get away with my notebook and pen. It is amazing the excitement and clarity this process brings. I allow myself the time and space, without distractions, to put together realistic and meaningful resolutions for the coming year.

Instead of waiting for inspiration to act on your goals, you need to take action first and inspiration will follow.

Try a New Year's Resolution escape, and

We may not always achieve all of our goals, all of the time, but we can strive to "Be the change you're trying to create"~Gandhi
